B-Chan Blog #3 Back from The Bathroom

It has been three years since my last blog, and what a journey it has been. There is so much to write and share that I stared at a blank document for roughly an hour. Since we last spoke, I had some issues at home and moved back in with my family at the end of 2018. It was there I took a job that was as impactful to my life as it was unorthodox. I began working the night club scene.

This was weird, if not rewarding, job I had found on Craig’s List and I will admit to being uncertain at first. The job was a bathroom attendant gig, and I would be paid daily in tips. My boss assured me that I would make a profit, and he was absolutely right. There were two things that were most helpful in this position. The first, interacting with successful business owners, the second was the down time needed to write and work on projects. I was still doing game reviews, but something happened with the site I was working with and my articles were soon removed. I took the hint and backed off of reviews to focus on Lumin, the fact that the motherboard in my desktop died didn’t help things either.

I had also taken on another project to help develop a comic book superhero for a fundraiser publishing house, or at least I think it was. That too, fell to the waste side, falling out of contact with the man spearheading the project. I really did like the character I developed so I added Isolde into the Lumin project. Months passed while I spent my days in the night club bathrooms, writing scripts and finding artist to design backgrounds and characters. I had the rather ambitious idea of turning Lumin into an episodic free to play visual novel series complete with mini games as an app. And in terms of content, I was making progress. But there were other problems I faced, such as finding my own space to work and record.

Roughly six months had passed, and my father had finally gotten the house he worked so hard for, which meant I had to find my own place. I took on more hours at the clubs and soon found myself working 50-60 hours a week, but I managed to get my own apartment. It was time to move on to the next step and improve upon my life both personally and professionally. I began reading books on business and self-improvement. I took up archery, drawing, got a car, and even began to study Yu-Gi-Oh on a competitive level. As far as Lumin was concerned, I started working with a voice actor to study and understand what it meant to do voice work. If I’m being honest, I just started getting to a point where I feel comfortable playing other characters in the open. Slowly but surely, I was inching towards my goal of getting Lumin completed.

In my new home, I worked almost endlessly trying to do what I can get Lumin off of the ground and was almost ready to start production on episode one. Then something happened, you may have heard about this, the world got infected with COVID-19. The clubs were the first to get shut down, and the financial progress I had made on Lumin had to come to a halt. I worked when I could, but priorities were made and making money became number one. Then one day, while on a job, a chance fluke happened, and I accidentally called my former roommate from 2018. We made amends and I moved back in with him towards the end of my lease.

Since then, I continued studying my crafts. I signed up for online classes in music, game design, and voice acting. I also got a new job collecting and sorting donations to charity. On the surface, this sounds like a low paying job, and it is. But the things that get donated are several items I was looking for back when I was working the club scene. So far, I have found a punching bag, an audio system, several TVs, and an almost endless supply of computer and smart phone accessories.

And so here I am now, sitting in my car watching a trailer while I write this blog. I am excited to get home tonight because after nearly two years I have a new desktop so the question is what game should I review next?
